Integra5 Offers Sneak Peek of New SMS to TV Application at CES 2007
i5 C-SDP’s expanded wireless integration enables SMS communications across wireless and wireline networks, turning TVs and PCs into SMS devices in the home
BURLINGTON, Mass., January 8, 2007 Integra5, the pioneer in enabling cable and IPTV service providers to blend quad play bundles into converged services for simultaneous delivery across TVs and PCs, today announced that it will showcase SMS to TV, the next addition to its i-Communicate application suite for the award-winning i5 Converged Services Delivery Platform (i5 C-SDP), in Scientific Atlanta’s booth (North Meeting Room N227) at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), January 8-11 in Las Vegas.
SMS to TV further demonstrates the i5 C-SDP’s leadership in seamlessly converging quad play elements mobile phones, landlines, TVs and PCs into new cross-platform services. It will also be the first service that enables SMS communications between cell phones and TVs and PCs using landline numbers.
In the CES demo, booth visitors will be able to send a text message from a cell phone to a TV in a real-world, home-based scenario. The text message will be displayed on the TV and the visitor can then use the TV remote to reply to the message with pre-set responses, or to trigger a “click to call” response that initiates a call between the home landline phone and the cell phone that sent the text message. If the person sending the text message has been personalized via the i5 network address book, the SMS will be flagged with a picture and nickname of the sender on the TV screen similar to Integra5’s Picture Caller ID service.
“Sprint Nextel’s recent joint venture with Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox Communications and Advance/ Newhouse Communications points to exciting advances ahead in the triple and quad play arenas,” said Matt Davis, director of IDC’s Consumer Multiplay program. “As cable and IPTV service providers blend wireless capabilities into their quad play packages, it becomes increasingly important to have flexible, network-based platforms that can deploy a wide variety of services - quickly and seamlessly - in response to changing consumer demands.”
In addition to SMS to TV, which will be available this summer, Integra5 will also demonstrate some of the company’s other cross-platform applications at CES, including TV/PC Picture Caller ID and Message Waiting Indication.
“The initial focus of wireless integration with the residential triple play has been on moving TV functions to cell phones, such as remotely programming DVRs,” said Dr. Eyal Bartfeld, co-founder and EVP of Integra5. “The i5 C-SDP adds an entirely new dimension to the quad play by moving cell phone functions to in-home devices such as TVs and PCs so subscribers can receive and send text messages on devices of their choice yet another example of Integra5’s cross-platform capabilities that enhance the user experience and drive ARPU.”
Additionally, Integra5 CEO Meredith Flynn-Ripley will speak on a panel entitled “The Needle in the Haystack: Helping Consumers Find Meaningful Content” on Tuesday, January 9 from 10:30 11:30 a.m. in the LVCC South Hall, room S106-107. This CES session, part of the CONNECTIONS Digital Living Conference and Showcase, will address how service providers can provide relevant and accessible content to consumers without inundating them with information.
